Measuring expressiveness in child speech for practice and assessment of oral reading fluency
Prosody is a key component of oral reading fluency (ORF) assessments, together with accuracy and speed. But the manual assessment of prosody is largely subjective. This paper – delivered as part of a Show and Tell session at Interspeech 2023 – explains SoapBox’s approach to generating a quantitative score for prosody that can support teachers and enhance the ORF assessments undertaken by children powered by SoapBox Fluency API.
